Holiday Door Couture

Holiday Door Couture

We think it's safe to say, "It's Here!" - It's the most wonderful time of the year! It's time to deck your halls, adorn your walls and add a little holiday couture to your door. With a little wire, some felt, glitter and glue, these two holiday wreath ideas will help add a little holiday spirit to you. And maybe even make your neighbors jealous... Happy wreathing!

Retro Wire Wreath

Materials Needed:

  • Wire Wreath (floral section of the craft store)
  • Pipe Cleaners
  • Sequins or other gems or brooches
  • White Spray Paint
  • Glue Gun
  • Silver Glitter
  • White Card stock (and a printer)
  • Modge Podge
  • Foam Paint Brush

Step One:

Spray paint your wire wreath white on both sides. Be sure to do this in a very well ventilated area.

Step Two:

Type "Be Merry" into a Word Document at about 140pt font with an outline. Print onto white cardstock.

Step Three:

Cut out letters and apply a thin layer of modge podge onto them. Next, be sure to glitter them! (glitter makes everything fun)

Let them dry.

Step Four:

Mold your pipe cleaners into flowers by bending them in half and then each half in half again and twisting them around each other to form two petals. Repeat this however many times you want, to make sure you get the number of petals on your flower you would like. Try to leave an extra bit of pipe cleaner to attach to the wire wreath mold. if you do not have extra you can also use floral wire to attach them. Make 3 of these flowers.

Step Five:

Hot glue the gems or sequins onto the center of each flower.

Step 6:

When the glittered letters are dry, hot glue them on to the bottom of your wreath, equally spacing them and gluing them at the top and bottom.
Hang it up and BE MERRY!

Felt and Yarn Holiday Wreath

Materials Needed:

  • White Foam Wreath Shape
  • Yarn
  • Assorted Colors of Felt, about 12 to 15 pieces
  • Scissors
  • Hot Glue Gun

Step One:

Wrap your yarn evenly and spaced very closely around the entire wreath making a knot at the end to secure it.

Step Two:

Cut 4x4, 7x7 and 9x9 inch squares out of your felt. (smaller will be smaller flowers, larger will be larger flowers)

Step Three:

Draw swirls on the cut squares starting from the middle.

Step Four:

Cut along the swirl, cutting off the excess so that you are left with a long thin felt swirl.

Step Five:

Starting from the center roll the felt up into the flower shape (kind of a like a sushi roll). Hot glue the end to secure it.

Step Six:

Create as many flowers as you like in all sizes.  Arrange them in a way that is visually pleasing to you on your wreath filling up as much space as you want.

Step Seven:

Once you have all your flowers laid out, begin attaching them with hot glue. Be sure to press each one down firmly for about 20 seconds before moving on to the next one. Proudly hang it up on your door or wall and each day you come home and see your beautiful wreath, remember how it FELT to create such a winter wonder.
