Green Tips

Keep the Candles Burning
Wednesday, April 22, 2009

Maybe on the first Earth Day, April 22, 1970, it made sense to celebrate Mother Nature for just one day a year.  But today, we all know that every day is earth day if we’re gonna stay green.

So here are some tips from our friends at 1,001 Ways to Save the Earth on how to keep life eco-friendly all year ‘round:

  • Keep a mug at work for all the hot drinks you need to fuel your day.
  • If you’re going to the effort of saving bottles for recycling, make sure you first remove caps, corks and other additions, which contaminate potentially useful glass.
  • Birthday cakes with candles aren't a serious contributor to climate change - even if you're celebrating your hundredth birthday with the right number of candles.  But to save space at the landfill, blow out the candles and reuse them next time, with their tops cut off.  On a green planet maybe we'll all live to be a hundred.
